Scientists have discovered that cancerous brain tissue can be cooked out of the brain, without harming healthy benign tissues, offering patients who had little or no options before a chance. Last month, they performed a successful procedure where a small hole was drilled into the skull the size of a pencil, and then used live MRI to guide a laser towards the cancerous tissue.
Once in position, the laser "cooked" and melted the cancer cells, destroying them. The method and tool was approved in 2009 by the FDA for surgical use. More information on this procedure here.
